Brian Wittenburg, 45
Brian William Wittenburg, of Pond Street, died unexpectedly February 15 at Kingston General Hospital after a brief illness with cancer. He was 45.
Born in Ottawa on August 18, 1951, he was the only son of William Wittenburg and the former Doris Gordon. He was raised and educated in Ottawa and on July 2, 1977, married the former Christine Abbott.
Mr. Wittenburg worked in government services for a total of 25 years, 17 of them with weights and measures. He came to Brockville six years ago as the resident inspector of weights and measures for Consumer and Corporate Affairs Canada.
He was an associate member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 96. He loved rock and roll, particularly The Beatles, and enjoyed science fiction and horror movies. He liked working with cars and electronic equipment and also spent time at his computer. His favorite hockey team was the Montreal Canadians and his favorite football team was the Hamilton Tiger Cats.
His main interest was spending time with his family.
Besides his wife Christine, Mr. Wittenburg is survived by his children, Crystal and Ryan, both at home; his mother-in-law Eva Abbott and her husband Peter Williams of Inverary, Ont; brothers-in-law Randy, Kevin, and Steven Abbott and sister-in-law Karen Vancoughnett, all of Kingston; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by both his parents.
Friends called at Irvine Funeral Home and Chapel, Brockville, where on February 19 the funeral was held. Rev. Stuart Marples of Brockville Wesleyan Church officiated assisted by Rev. Helen Wilson. Burial will be in the spring at Cataraqui Cemetery, Kingston.
The pallbearers were Kevin, Peter, Joe and Steven Abbott, Darsnan Kant and Milfred Dean.
Memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society and the Wesleyan Church were gratefully acknowledged.
