Mark 50th Wedding Anniversary
Some 270 friends and relatives signed the guest book in the Canterbury Room of the Trinity Anglican Church, Ottawa, on occasion of the Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Cowan. Assisting the anniversarians were the bridesmaid and groomsman of 50 years ago, Mrs. Mabel Latimer, sister of the bride, and Eddie Cowan, brother of the groom.
Mr. Cowan is the eldest son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Cowan of Golden Valley, and Mrs. Cowan was the former Ida Ellen Comrie, eldest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Comrie of Springhill. They were married at the bride’s home by the late Rev. Robert McNabb of Kenmore on April 28, 1914.
Pouring tea in the afternoon were Mrs. Cecil Sully, Mrs. Robin Campbell, Mrs. Henry Cinnamon and Mrs. Stewart Jeacle. In the evening, Mrs. George Cowan, Mrs. Tom Cowan, Mrs. Willis McRostie, Mrs. Violet Comrie, Mrs. Hazel Stanley, Mrs. Willard Acres, Mrs. Howard McRostie, and Mrs. Eddie Cowan poured.
Those serving were: Mrs. Frank Morrison, Mrs. Arnold Acres, Mrs. Clifford Cowan, Mrs. Lloyd Cowan, Mrs. Raymond Earl, Mrs. Orville Davidson, Miss Phyllis Campbell, Mrs. John Newell, Mrs. Don Bleeks, Mrs. Roland Barrigar, Mrs. Ray Hughes, Heather Cowan, Lois and Linda Morrison, Pauline, Sylvia, and Nancy Acres, Mrs. Willard Acres, Mrs. Eddie Cowan, Mrs. Gordon Simpson, Mrs. Harry Campbell, and Mrs. James Brien.
Mr. and Mrs. Cowan have five children: Mrs. Frank Morrison(Hazel), of North Gower; Mrs. Arnold Acres(Pearl), and Clifford, of Ottawa; Lloyd, of Manotick, and Ross, of Oromocto, N.B.
Many beautiful gifts were received on this happy occasion and a chrome kitchen set was presented to the couple by the family.
Messages of congratulations were received from Prime Minister Pearson, Hon. John G. Diefenbaker, Hon. William Haskett, and many friends and relatives.
